Car windshields are the most expensive of all glasses. These glasses don’t break down often but when they do it is due to physical mishandling. People do not play with their car and so physical damages like damaged windshield does not occur frequently. When it does replacing the windshield is very expensive. Although the insurance company is liable to pay for these problems but they don’t want to pay big amount of money. As replacing the windshield is expensive there is a high chance that the insurance company will refuse to pay for it. A cheap alternate solution is glass chip repair.

Glass chip repair has now been made easy with the fancy new technologies. Now anyone can perform glass chip repair but the question is, “is the repair durable?” Windshield are at such a position that if anything goes wrong, the life of the driver and the one sitting next to the driver is at stake so an even more important question to ask is “is the repair safe?”. The molecular bonding of the windshield is different from other type of glasses. There are three layers in windshields. There is a cellulose layer which is the inner layer bounded in two sides by glass layer. When there is a crack the inner cellulose layer holds the glass layers ensuring that the windshield does not break.

Although glass chip repair is a solution to damages in windshield it cannot be always used. It can only be used if the crack in the glass is not big. If a crack in the windshield is left alone the crack becomes bigger which will result in irreparable windshield. The repair has to be done as soon as possible to ensure that it can be repaired and not replaced which will save money. In glass chip any debris that remains in the crack is first removed. Adhesive is then applied and the windshield is fixed. Although it sounds easy, if not performed rightly, the appearance of the car might get affected.

There is always a hidden cost in economy work. Glass chip repair saves money as replacement is not needed but the crack is visible. No one wants to ride a car which has crack in windshield and moreover visible cracks in are embarrassing for the vehicle owner. The money saved by avoiding replacement causes loss of intrinsic value of the owner. The solution is repairing from a professional repairman. The visibility of the crack after repair depends upon how good the repair is. There will always be sign of crack and the glass will never look as it did before but the challenge here is to minimize the sign of crack. Although a professional repairman charges more, he can deliver better work as he repairs windshield like these all. The tradeoff is between the appearance of the car and the extra money. Money is being saved anyways as repair is done instead of replacement. This extra money charged by the professional will benefit the owner and will keep his stature.
